
The term RETINITE refers to natural amber from the Dominican Republic. Unlike Baltic Amber, it does not contain succinic acid and almost always appears in nodules with a marked transparency. (More information)
The sample has a strong blue halo due to the presence of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon "perylene" inside the amber macromolecule. The effect is clearly visible especially in natural light (photo 1) while in ultraviolet light (Wood's light) it develops a very strong blue fluorescence (photo 3)
